Health and Fitness

 

Mandatory.

You must be fit and healthy for working at height - and this includes wearing and being suspended in a full body harness. Note that in many cases, you would have a duty to perform a basic rescue if something went wrong. For example, all tower workers are expected to be able to perform a rescue to get an injured worker safely down from the tower.

 

You have a legal duty to disclose any medical condition that could impact upon your safety of the safety of others.

For example, if you have severe allergic reactions to insect stings that could cause you to go into shock and/or die, you have a duty to disclose. Or, if you have an existing back injury that is incompatible with suspension in a harness, this type of occupation may be unsuitable for you!

Mandatory minimum age.

 

The minimum age is 18 years - and if you are under the age of 18 the law considers you to be a child.

Rope access students (ISO 22846) will be expected to learn and master a range of knots - the following are considered to be fundamental:
